I believe in using my work to challenge societal norms and push for greater representation and inclusivity. The fashion industry often overlooks the diverse range of skin tones and features, and I wanted to challenge that with my artwork. By collaborating with my mother to create a braided hairstyle using copper wire, we were able to experiment with the texture and dimension of the hair in a unique and creative way. Using Photoshop, I enhanced the details of the braids, while also ensuring that the copper wire design didn't overpower the rest of the photo. To complement the hairstyle, I created a flowing garment using silky fabric that resembled water. This created a sense of movement and fluidity that contrasted with the rigid structure of the braids, and added an ethereal quality to the image. But beyond showcasing the hairstyle and the garment, I wanted to accentuate the natural beauty of the model by bringing out her unique features and highlighting her ebony complexion.
