Desirae Brown

I am a black biracial woman who is a mother and a head of my household. I am a father and mother. Born in Cheyenne, Wyoming to a single white mother, I see myself as part of a long history of women struggling to navigate these conflicting and intersecting identities. Using found materials, my sculptural work explores the interior lives, bodies, and struggles of Black women who like me are navigating single parenthood. My goal is to create a space in which women feel recognized and celebrated for their brilliance, beauty, and power regardless of their financial situation, marital or parenthood status.
