Denise Toney
I am a multi-disciplinary artist who delves into fiber art, quilting, découpage, collage, digital art, and mixed media using predominantly, but not exclusively, African, Aboriginal, Dutch, Asian, and other imported textiles. I employ the time-honored arts of sewing, quilting, collaging, découpaging, and mixed media with imported and domestic textiles. I LOVE color! Earth tones, reminiscent of the colors that I grew up with within my home, dominate my art. All of my arrangements are extremely calculated, contrived, and deliberate. I take meticulous care to ensure that the designs, scales, and textures of the fabrics complement one another and appropriately contrast when necessary. I do the fussiest fussy-cutting, and I feel like I “paint” substrates with the medium of fabric like a painter paints with his or her paints. I believe our whole styles of living can be works of art if make it so. I strive to make art that people would love to have in their spaces and even on themselves.
