About ATA

Posted by Simone Craig on

Art in the Atrium, Inc. (ATA) is a non-profit, tax-exempt, Black-led organization committed to celebrating and advancing Black culture through visual arts. As culture keepers, ATA is a decades old cultural institution and preeminent authority in the art world that supports and invests in black art and artists by giving them visibility and a creative space to breathe.

A career fire-starter for black artists, ATA has ushered in and enhanced the notable careers of Bisa Butler, Alonzo Adams and Leroy Campbell.

"I started as an exhibitor with Art in the Atrium. Everybody knows that every year [ATA] has an exhibit. That was the place to go to see who was what and where in the art world. And, if you want to be in the art world, this is the level that you have to rise to."
~ Bisa Butler, Fiber Art Master

Past exhibits have featured such masters as Romare Bearden, David Driskell, Willie Cole, Deborah Willis, Benny Andrews, Elizabeth Catlett, Bisa Butler, Janet Taylor Pickett and Faith Ringgold.

A community and cultural touchstone, since its founding ATA has given over $30,000 in scholarships to promising BIPOC arts students and has spurred economic activity in the community by selling more than $500,000 in fine art by established and emerging Black artists at its annual and satellite art exhibits for corporate and government partners.

In 2001 and again in 2016, the organization was named "Arts Organization of the Year" by Morris Arts based in Morristown, NJ.

Currently, ATA has partnerships with Mayo Performing Arts Center, Morris Arts, the Morris Museum and Novartis Pharmaceuticals. In 2023, ATA will celebrate its 31st Exhibiting Year with the following exhibits:
