Camisha McDaniel

Born and raised in Kansas but I currently residing in Charlotte, NC. I am an Art, Teacher, and Entrepreneur. I have been creating art almost my entire life.  I was in the fourth grade when my art teacher pointed out my gift of creativity. As the school years went by, I continued to enroll in various types of art classes. This led me to creating art using a variety of mediums from a very young age. Creating works of art using mixed media has always been my artist style.  My work was never complete to me with just the basic paint, charcoal, or pencil drawing. I had to add other elements to my work for it to feel complete. I am fascinated with various types of art but mixed media with found objects has always captured my eye. As an adult and after living life a little and growing up with a spiritual background, mixed media is still my artist style. Spiritual figures and stories from the Bible have become my inspiration for my current paintings.  Being African American and creating images I can relate to also plays a part in my current works of art.

I graduated from the University of Kansas with a bachelor’s in fine arts and went on to complete my master’s in education administration.  After college I have continued to create paintings and drawings over the years.  Now I teach art, 4 years of elementary art and 3 year of high school visual arts.  Currently I teach high school ceramics for the first time, and I love it.  To be able to share some of the things I’ve learned over the years when it comes to creating is the best feeling in the world.
