Asia Anderson

I embrace watercolors for their unpredictability. Their fluidity demands problem-solving and adaptation, turning mistakes into creative opportunities. I paint on an easel with my paper taped to a board, blending the precision of oil painting with watercolor’s spontaneity. This balance of control and flow mirrors my work’s themes. My paintings reflect love, family, childhood, and bittersweet relationships. They offer intimate glimpses into my world. Viewers may find nostalgia in my experiences while I explore self-discovery. As a Black woman, art has been a source of healing and growth. I draw inspiration from nature, identity, and my journey from childhood to womanhood. Figures in my work, often friends or family, infuse sentimentality and care. Watercolor is a meditative practice, balancing intuition and control. Through layering and mark-making, I create works that invite reflection, connection, and emotional resonance.
