Beverly McCutcheon

I especially enjoy experimenting with and exploring different mediums, but collage, assemblage and fiber arts, seem to be the most self-fulfilling. “Something Borrowed” a piece from my series “Ladies in Old Lace” emerged from my love of leather, lace, fabric and graphite. This piece is also an offshoot of previous series, in which the subjects are encapsulated in the safety leather pods and are adorned with stylized headdresses and unique jewelry. She wears an actual vintage wedding dress, flared out as it she’s taking her first dance steps.

I take great pleasure in the process of finding, selecting and adorning my subjects with “just the right” ornamental objects and placing them against “just the right” background. I especially enjoy cutting through all types of paper and textures, in particular, the soft, buttery leathers used to create the pods. I utilize jewel-toned colors to evoke somber moods even though the work’s theme might be light hearted.
